Kosovo is developing principles of good governance, transparency, and adherence to international environmentaland social standards, which will support its integration into the international community. The Government of Kosovo, in implementing the LPTAP, has committed to building its capacity to meet such standards while expanding and improving its activities in energy and mining. Its first major undertaking towards this end is the Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) of the Kosovo C project.

The SESA evaluates the effects of the proposed project, and uses the findings in a publicly accountable decision-making process. This SESA is in line with the European Commission’s Directive on Strategic Environmental Assessment of Plans and Programs and the World Bank’s Safeguards Policies and Procedures.

Madam Minister of Energy and Mining Dr. Justina Pula together with Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Mr. Mahir Yagcilar and Representative of the World Bank in Prishtina Mr. Ranjit Nayak, today disclosed Final Draft SESA Report for public.

A special dedicated web-site was created for interested parties to download the relevant SESA documents and learn more about the environmental and social issues of the proposed development project. The web site www.lignitepower.com/sesa will also serve as a platform where all comments and suggestions collected during public hearing will be displayed.

The Draft Final SESA (brochure and the executive summary) has also been distributed to all relevant stakeholders in Kosovo.
