A Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting was held today. New members of the PSC were familiarized with details of the project, current status as well as with necessary steps that would lead to the next stage of the project, development and issue of RFP to the short-listed bidders.

Kosovo C project is a high priority project for Government of Republic of Kosova that aims toward improvement of electricity supply for citizens of Kosova, without creating additional social and environmental stress and in full compliance with EU standards.

The new PSC is dedicated to transparent decision-making and maintaining competitive process. All decisions related to final capacity, development stages, location, technology and economic benefits that this project may generate will be taken after careful assessment of environmental and social implications; also through constructive public consultation process with NGOs, civil society and affected communities.

This project, together with other projects that are being evaluated and developed in parallel, i.e. construction of new hydropower plants and development of alternative sources for electricity generation, will improve electricity supply situation in the long term and will help diversify generation sources in compliance with policies of developed countries of EU.

The newly constituted Project Steering Committee will continue with its activities in the following days by studying documents, technical and economic analysis, environmental and social impact assessment developed by project advisers. In the next PSC meeting (expected to be held within next two weeks) an updated project time plan will be approved.

This project continues to be supported by The World Bank and international community in Kosova.
